Details of residency in DGO

I did my residency for 2 years in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Kasturba Medical College Hospitals, Manipal that are tertiary referral center of Manipal University. Manipal University is the first institution in the private sector to be recognized as a Deemed University by the Government of India. It has over 20 constituent institutions that provide over 180 courses across 13 streams viz Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Nursing, Allied Health, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Management, Mass Communication, Information Sciences, Hotel Management and Regenerative Medicine. Manipal University currently has an enrollment of over 15000 students each year and has the largest concentration of foreign students in India doing professional courses, representing over 52 countries.

As a Resident, I performed many surgeries in Obstetrics & Gynaecology independently. I have also independently conducted many normal and assisted vaginal deliveries. Our department is a reputed center for treatment of high-‐risk obstetrics, infertility, gynaecological neoplasms, and Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopic procedures. In our center we conduct on an average of 1200 vaginal deliveries and about 2500 caesarean deliveries in year. The high rate of caesarean deliveries is attributed to the department being a tertiary referral Centre. During my training period I have conducted 100 normal and assisted vaginal deliveries, performed 50 caesarean deliveries, 10 myomectomies and 5 hysterectomies. I have also assisted 70 laparoscopic procedures & 30 gynaec oncological procedures. Performed 100 Minor procedures like tubectomies, suction evacuation, and dilatation and curettage. During my post graduation I took theory classes for undergraduates and interns posted in the department. I attended 5 conferences during the period and presented a paper in YUVA FOGSI south zone Conference and won GOLD medal.
