This may be related to the new wave of increased tobacco use in urban areas of india and the high prevalence of the use of smokeless tobacco among younger adult men than women.(Lancet2006;367;589-94)

The tabocco related cancer in india for male are estimated to go up from 190,244 in the year 2010 to 225,241 in the year 2020, Similarly, the female cases will go up from 75,289 in the year 2010 to 93,563 in the year 2020.(Asian PacJ Cancer prev:2010; 11(4): 1045-9)

In one study amongst 450 newly registered patients, 77(17%) were previously treated with curative intent and 69(89%) of them were inappropriately treated. Amongst 56 patients available for outcome review, 18(32%) patients were alive disease.(Indian J cancer 2012;49:6-10). This study emphasizes early detection and right treatment planning to increase the chance of disease free survival of patient.

Both these surgical procedures can be done to overcome swallowing and breathing problems in children.

A closed or narrow airway causes breathing to be stopped repeatedly while sleeping leading to drowsiness, higher blood pressure, cardiac issues and irritability as a result of lower oxygen supply to the brain. In this therapy, an implantable device is placed in the patient which stabilises the patient’s throat during sleep and prevents any obstruction.
